The first 100 days

Interns naturally have a different take on their time at Roland Berger than university graduates who move straight into positions as consultants. Everyone who joins us makes one specific discovery in the first 100 days, however. They learn that the world of consulting is something completely different. The typical "first-100-day timeline" below describes how people find their place in this new world and outlines the new impressions, challenges and experiences that await you.

Your new address

Business cards etc.

Although you might have to work at the client's site for many of your projects, our office remains the place where consultants can regularly touch base with colleagues in a familiar setting. You will therefore spend the first few days getting set up in your office. All the tools you need – business cards, a mobile phone and a laptop – will be supplied to you. You will also be issued with a password to access the premises and your PC. In addition, you will be appointed a "buddy", that is a colleague that will make your accommodation period easier, and to whom you can address all your questions and problems.

Initial training

Meet the newbies

Several times a year, we hold kick-off training sessions for our new recruits. For this 14-day training session, new hires from all over the world come together to learn more about the company, network with colleagues and develop their hard and soft skills. Workshops, lectures, case-studies and outdoor exercises prepare you optimally for your new challenges, at the same time helping you build up a network that will be of great value to you in your future project work. You also receive all the answers to any questions you may have.

On the job

Your first few days on a "real" project

Stacks of paper, dozens of documents, tons of information. You will have to do a lot of reading to work your way into "your" project. You will be actively involved in a project module. The other people on your team will help you during the startup phase. They will also be around for you when you shoulder responsibility for the first time. You will soon know the ropes. And you will be surprised how quickly you also become an accepted colleague to whom new recruits instinctively turn.

Your new life

The plane leaves at 7:50 a.m.

Hotel-hopping will often leave you living out of a suitcase. On your stays in foreign cities, you will often not see much more than the route from the hotel to your client and back. Quite often you will spend at least four days a week working on the client's premises. On Fridays, you will often be back home in the office. In between project work, client meetings and workshops, project dinners, seminars and team events, the rhythm of your life will change. Some days will be harder than others. But if you had to choose again, you would still make the same decision: to become a consultant at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants!

Gaining ground

The excitement never wanes

By now you are really finding your feet. Your project leader will give you regular feedback, letting you know when you are getting too obsessed with the details or losing yourself in academic observations. Soon you will be given responsibility for your own project module. You will reap the benefit of a broad array of training and development offerings. Finally, an initial evaluation meeting will officially complete your acclimatization period. You are now a Roland Berger Strategy Consultant.
